Amber is in dire straits.
Ocean shadow paths are closed. Amber has yet to score a victory on the Oogie fleets that they have fought.
Juliana is very pregnant, and her belly is glowing with magical issues. But not Oogie.
There is rationing in Amber. People are leaving Amber. People have sent their children out into the countryside. Amber is under martial law.
Madeline Dumas is now Madeline Forester.
Reggie is hosting a wedding reception for Madeline and Ioan Forester at Duchess Juliana's house.
Corwin escaped his cell with trump-like drawings, according to Hawk. The floor was actually wet, he says. Lighthouse of Cabra. The King has been notified.
Hawk asks Evey if she can find Corwin in Shadow. She's excited at the notion.
Ambrose senses a great storm is coming during Juliana's party.
O'Donovan proposes to Evey. They go out to get her parents' permission. They return and recruit Ambrose to marry them. Evey floats out the Richard Dwyer, and by the power of the Narwhal, they are married. The newlyweds head back to O'Donovan's house -- their house now.
The next morning, the storm is still building.
Juliana tries to get Evey in to see Eric. The three have breakfast. "Do you have a way to contact Corwin? Something I can use for sympathetic magic?" "For what ends?" "He needs to undo the damage he has done." Eric turns her down flat.
And Juliana's baby is coming. The weather is get worse. Reggie and O'Donovan are drinking with Philip. Juliana has twins, a boy and a girl. The boy cries, the girl just looks at Mom and smiles. The storm breaks.
Days later. Evey has acquired a trump of Corwin, preps mission. O'Donovan and Reggie are in on the planning.
Eric and Hawk go to visit Juliana. (Arryl and some Weir are present as well.) Philip is MIA on the Black Road. Her brother George is badly wounded from the same engagement.
Evey, O'Donovan, and Reggie head out of town to attempt her plan to contact Corwin. Someplace in view of the Black Road. Evey's attempt to contact him fails.
Benedict has come to Amber.
Amber's walls are a lot smaller than they used to be. Giants, wyverns.
Reggie has established diplomatic ties with Rebma in hopes that people can be evacuated there. Juliana begs him to rescue Philip. He refuses, insisting he should protect her instead.
Evey is patching holes in the walls using her magic; O'Donovan supports her. Then she starts messing around with volcanos.
Weeks go by, things getting worse and worse. Juliana has been living at the castle with her children.
In the midst of the battle, one old blue-skinned man (Ambrose) goes down to the waters and starts chanting. The waters retreat. The fishbowl on his head explodes, and the waters crash down as a crazy tsunami. Evey helps direct the waters to strike at our foe.
Madeline has an opportunity to capture a wyvern. She hides and jumps on one.
We hear automatic weapon fire in the distance. Hawk is defending the king. There is a mist around them, which appears to be melting the Oogie forces. There is a charge on Eric from the forces that make it through. Hawk takes a blow intended for Eric, walks his way up the sword and knocks off his helmet. It is zombie Philip. Sabatini whacks Philip in the head and he goes down.
Meanwhile, the castle is breached. Juliana is helping in the infirmary, Arryl and nanny by her side. Rumors: The King is dead. Corwin is here. Reggie sends Arryl a note suggesting how she might get Juliana to Rebma. Arryl takes Juliana to the dungeon. Orders from the king: get you to the lighthouse. They use the trump on the wall in Corwin's cell.
The furry beings with the automatic weapons are fighting alongside the forces of Amber. By the time Evey and O'Donovan reach Eric, he's very dead. Caine is directing this side of the battle, and yes, we have the things with guns here. Hawk is dead too. The tide of battle has changed in our favor.
