On the south side of DeBradford with theirs backs against Hoadley’s, Nauta Millinery,

1410 DeSilegue D, and Phoenix Books is a row of one story store fronts.

Facing them from left to right, they are Chavin’s, Loebs Genealogy, BigMac’s and Coney’s Brickyard.

Chavin’s is run by Cyrus Chavin, chimney swept. Cyrus is a tall slender man with black hair and a thin black

mustache. He is conceivably the least offensive person anyone could ever expect to meet.

He sleeps in the backroom of his office and usually eats at Wesson’s.

Loebs Genealogy is just that, operated and researched by old lady Loebs a heavyset woman with thick lips, bespectacled

baggy eyes and shaggy white hair. She is as sweet as she is annoying. She also knows her stuff and everyone else’s.

BigMac is an element wizard specializing in “Lighting and Fire’ magic’s”.

The name BigMac is something of a personal joke as BigMac is Macdonald, a short pudgy fellow with

thin and thinning long brown hair and a short beard. Since he has opened his shop the number of

accident fires and lighting strikes have decreased by 70%. And the fires at Bakerman’s have never gone out.

Beyond these three small storefronts the remainder of the block is occupied by Conway’s Brickyard, literally a

brickyard as the brick making facility is on the north side of the street. Coney’s sells brick for chimney, wall

and street fabrication; and in an effort to cover all his bases also sells and stocks cobblestones and logs for

street building and repair. On the north side of the street is the location of the actual factory.

North of Daffad’s, Greg Thiefson’s office and 1521 D is Aubrey Carriage Service, cabs for hire, on DeBradford at

1521 A. It occupies the entire block and houses horses, cabs and drivers; providing sleeping quarters for

drivers who are single and chose to sleep above their place of employment. Bradford is slightly below average

in height black man, clean shaven with a broad smile and open hand for most everyone. He has built this business

from the ground up by himself and having once been a driver himself chooses his drivers with great care.

A believer in employing local talent he uses Hoadley for most of his harness and such.

The block south of Desilegue is DePreiss Behind Bill’s on DePreiss at 1309 B is Lord Byron & Lady Caroline’s Fine

Imported Fabrics. It carries only the highest end imported fabrics, button, ribbons and other garment making needs.

Neither Byron nor Caroline are gentry, landed or titled; Byron bestowed the titles upon them as an indication of the

quality of their merchandise. Byron is a man of average height clean-shaven with thick rich dark curly hair and a

quiet smile. Caroline is taller slender with long light brown hair and a warm but slightly crooked smile. Lord Byron &

Lady Caroline’s Fine Imported Fabrics employe four women and 2 men to handle stock and sales, today Byron & Caroline

only involve themselves in the selecting and purchasing and tend to spend a far bit of time abroad. The store’s

manager, Tracy is a very short, fat, dark haired woman, whose accent sounds very similar to Clancey’s, and resides at

Hollyfield’s. 1309 B is a four story building with the couple’s residence on the fourth floor.

For those whose want something less strong (or more exotic) than what can to drank at either Wesson’s or Bill’s, there

is the Roses of the New Moon TeaHouse & Flower Garden. It is located at the north east corner of the intersection of

DePreiss & DeJohannes. There a patron can get tea (or sake). Jiro & Shino completely converted 1309 D into a piece of

their home shadow: grass mats, paper screens to separate rooms, etc.

Between these two extremes of culture is the accounting office of Marvin Gilson, a loud horse-faced older

bespectacled gentleman with a large nose and thinning white hair. He too resides at Hollyfield’s.

The first two shops on DePriess at the intersection with DeJohannes are numbers 1410 B and 1410 C. Between them is an

almost unhealthy professional and personal rivalry. They are Dale Joritz ‘s Apothecary Shop and the office of Doctor

Vermette. Joritz is a stocky built man with dark gray hair that hangs over his forehead and an Abe Lincoln style beard

also laced with gray. He is loud, opinionated and has served a tour of duty in Amber army. Like Hoadley, he

speaks of having a wild youth. Vermette is usually very quiet. He is also tall, straight, well muscled, clean-shaven

with a brush cut head of graying to white hair. Vermette too served a tour of duty in Amber’s army. The origin of

their feud is not public knowledge. It could be from their army days, or the differences between their professions, or

a rivalry over the love of a lady… who knows. They’re not telling.

1410 D on DePreiss is the offices of Antonio Falzon, solicitor. Oddly enough the office is never open although

business must be doing very well as messengers on certain days seem to fill the small office to the point of the

messengers spilling out into the street awaiting a response to their delivery. Most locals know that this is a front

for a book making business. Antonio when seen is a tall dark haired cleanshaven gentleman with an olive complexion.

Two large houses face each other or at least sit beside each other separated by DeBromska. After selling the barn to

Wesson, Cecile Hollyfield lived off that sale and the sales which followed for many years until she finally was forced

to take in boarders to prevent herself from further depleting her savings. Cecile is a short solid build woman whose

youth is unfortunately behind her. Her short blond hair has begun fading to gray or in the right light silver. It is

rumor she once had a suitor, an artist that her mother disapproved of and that her mother put an end to her

relationship with; in fact, like something out of a fairy tale, had threaten or actually locked her daughter away in

the root cellar. This has left her to grow old alone.

To the west of the Hollyfield Home is the April House which was built the same year Cecile sold the barn to Wesson.

Edmund, Joan’s husband, was a teacher and used the downstairs as classrooms and the second floor as the family’s

residence. Edmund was unfortunately a patriot, answered Amber’s last call to arms and did not come back. With Edmund’s

departure his wife Joan took on the chores of schoolteacher and continues so to this day. Edmund is also survived by

two very lovely and young blond blue-eyed daughters, Julie and Dawn who on the threshold of womanhood are now

attracting a lot of attention (to Joan’s motherly concerns).

1521 C is a very odd place to find Todd Little’s Small Mountains shop. Odd because DePreiss like DeSilegue is a semi-

circle about the city of Amber but at its greatest distance from the shore to the outermost reaches of the City it

only lays only about a third of the way from the docks. Small Mountains is a shop whose function is to outfit

enthusiasts of rock and mountain climbing. Todd himself is a mountain climber and his shop only stocks the best. Todd

is a young man of slight but very well muscled build with short brown hair and an enthusiasm to share his business and

his hobby with everyone.

Next door at 1521 D is the studio with kiln and salesroom of Jenna Corace’s ClayWorks: plates, lamps, bowls, mugs,

wall tiles, and jugs… anything that can be created from clay. Jenna has raven tresses and is a petite but well endowed

young woman who would be quite pretty save for a rather bad complexion. Unmarried she spends what free time she has

with a neighbor Todd Little.
