The Carlisle Dinner Party

Carnival, Day 15, Evening

Carlisle Manor in the West Hills

Logs are below, in the section of the party they started in.

Meta-stuff:

The following is an introduction/set-up post. There won't be a big group scene. Everyone at the party is welcome to start a thread with NPC's - see the GM.

If you would like to start a thread with another PC, please email the player offlist proposing the thread, and CC the GM at kitkindred at gmail dot com. No players are under obligation to join in any thread, so if you don't hear from someone, assume they're not able to play right now.

If you want to do a thread with more than one PC and an NPC, same thing.

For this set of threads I'd feel most comfortable imposing the round-robin rule, which says that each player gets a turn before someone can go again. If you have nothing to say that round, you post saying, "Juliana says nothing." This way no one gets run-over.

We do not have a minimum posting speed for many reasons, so please be patient and don't poke your fellow players. Some threads may die. It's okay. It can be worked out later. If you do join a thread and you know you're going to be unable to post for more than a week, please let the people in your thread know. If you're busy right now but available in a month, let people you're interested in playing with know.

If you also CC me at liz dot trumitch at gmail dot com I'll put logs up on the twiki as I get a chance.

What we're looking for here is a chance for the new email players to interact with some of the old email players and con players before the next ACUS, as well as a chance for people to set up later scenes, if they'd like.

Hope this makes sense. Just trying to avoid the crazyness of some of the huge group scenes in the past.

Liz

The Carlisle Manor, a walled mansion in the West Hills District, is alive with light on Mid-Carnival Eve. Simple globed votives mark the path from the front gate to the entrance hall of the house. There are footmen in Carlisle's livery lined up out front - more than are needed, it appears.

Everyone is received in the front hall by the Duke and Duchess, and introduced to either Lady Patrice, Miss DeSilegue or Mrs. Lange, who will show them into the parlor and continue introductions. The parlor, the library and the music room have all been opened to each other and the front hall and drinks are being served before dinner.

Reception Logs

Shortly after everyone arrives dinner is called. It is a meal of courses and conversation. The long table in the formal dining hall is decorated with a minimalistic approach. The tablecloth is royal blue and centered every four feet sits a single golden candlestick holden emblazoned in precious stones with the Carlisle crest. The tapers lit above these match the tablecloth, but are hardly needed for the beautiful lit chandliers.

There are no seats at the head and foot of the table. The Duke is in the middle on the western side, the Duchess across from him. Seating is assigned in an apparently random fashion, except Elyssa and those who know the Duchess can be sure the young eligible miss was seated next to the charismatic and very available Sir Anthony Dolan on purpose. He is, at least, entertaining, even if Elyssa is not interested.

[In other words, decide who is around you so you may converse how you will. We'll suspend our disbelief over conflicts.]

The doors to the back gardens are all cracked open to keep the temperature in the room reasonable.

Dinner Logs

After the last dessert course is taken away, a footman announces that the Duke and the Duchess invite everyone into the gardens for drinks.

The doors are all opened, and servants are seen uncovering and releasing miniture hot air balloons carrying little lights in their baskets, illuminating the crest, there again, in less precious stones. These float up before their lines catch from the trees, to loft at 10 feet. Servants move throughout the gardens lighting more globed votives to mark the paths, and the floating candles in the fountain.

[You can assume the Duchess or one of her minions will hit you up for your contribution in the gardens if you did not offer it at the door. If you want to play that out, email Liz.]

Servants are in and out refreshing drinks the rest of the evening. There are plenty of benches set throughout the gardens, but no hedge labyrinth to be had. The gardens are surrounded by a 12 foot wall of the same stone the house is faced in.

The Duke of Karm, Hereward Karm.

(Karm is one of the oldest Duchies-with only Feldane and Chantris being rivals in age. It may have been the most powerful as well before the incident with Osric. Karm is historically known for its incredible wealth, its beautiful women, and its damn bad luck. Its quietly whispered that Karm still suffers from the death curse of Prince Osric. The Duke, Hereward, is quite old, though unusually active and healthy for his age. He is a

silver haired bright eyed handsome man. He is known to be charming and incredibly witty. All of his sons have died either during the Weir or Moonrider Wars or through misadventure. His heir is his 5 year old grandson, Armars, who is his daughter's child. The boy's father is dead. Karm believes in tradition and legitimacy. Thus, Karm long viewed Prince Corwin as the unquestioned heir to the throne of Amber.)
