Beginning in June 1996, I will be running an psychic/espionage game loosely based on the style of theTV show (and now, the movie) Mission Impossible. Here in a prospectus for potential players.
The premise of the campaign: In 1969, the CIA formed a top-secret covert operations group composed entirely of agents manifesting some manner of psychic power. Over the ensuing years, various other branches of the government formed their own "talented" departments (composed largely of SuperPowered Beings - SPBs) until 1987, when Congress acted to stop the madness by bringing all such groups under one cabinet-level department. Now, the psi-ops group is under new management but the mission is still the same: eliminate or prevent threats to american interests using any means necessary. If you or any member of your team is caught or captured, the director will disavow all knowledge.
The format of the campaign: This campaign will be highly episodic. There will be overarching continuity, but the same characters will not be required each week, except for the team leader. (I wouldn't mind if someone wanted to play the team leader as a PC, by the way...) What I was thinking of was letting everyone come up with three different characters, so the group could vary the composition of teams for different episodes...er...I mean missions. The tone of the campaign won't be slapstick, but there will be certain amount of cinematic license taken in various situations.
Character Generation: I'm using the champions system, because I like their psionics stuff for this. The characters aren't all that hard to make. I have a spare rules book if anyone wants to look at it.
Sample Whispers characters are available to give people a feel for the game.
