Aerion, Prince in Amber

Aerion is a tall, rather slender man with silver hair and purple eyes. His colors are purple and silver. He does not usually wear a sword, but does tend to carry a wooden staff with him at all times.

Prince Aerion is the only known child of Finndo. He was born shortly after Benedict, and as such they grew up together. While Benedict looked up to Finndo, Aerion spent more time with Osric than he did with his father. In his younger years he was generally appreciated and loved by all. He was an exceptionally talented child, excelling in particular in the arts and music. He also showed an innate aptitude for mystical arts and was always testing the limits of his abilities, striving for new understanding and power.

He took the pattern at the age of 18, and received a deck of trumps. After spending some time traveling through Shadows, he returned to Amber about ten years later. After returning, he began to spend more time with Dworkin, which disturbed both Osric and Finndo. He apparently learned of the existence of the Primal Pattern and, after some preparation, he walked it. This appears to have caused a major change in his demeanor and personality. No longer the bright center of attention at social events, he spent most of his time closeted in his studio. His works were undeniably brilliant, but there was some sort of disturbing feel to all of them, which people found difficult to express in words.

He spent considerable amounts of time learning the art of drawing Trumps, as well as developing advanced techniques using it. His goal was to understand the fundamental connection between the Primal Pattern and Trump.

His exploration into these matters began to be a major cause of concern for his father and Osric, and did not escape Oberon's notice. Some of his experiments with trumps led to summoning of various creatures to Amber, some more dangerous than others. On several occasions he Osric to help him to be able to contain the creatures. He also began to travel further afield in Shadow, exploring regions where the worlds were strange and reality very malleable.

It appears that Oberon was concerned where these interests might ultimately lead Aerion, and the consequences it could have for Amber. Because of this, he was expelled from Amber. It is believed that this was at his father's request, and that Oberon had initially intended simply to kill Aerion. Instead, he was placed in a distant shadow after which the shadow was sealed (using the Jewel of Judgement), preventing him from ever leaving and returning to Amber.

Aerion spent the six or seven centuries in that place, creating a Shadow of Amber, and learning to temper his curiosity as well as the virtue of patience. He was ultimately released from this realm after the Wave of Chaos passed through it (after Oberon's redrawing of the Pattern), and returned to Amber, only to find that his father and uncle had been killed centuries before and that the only person who would know him (since all records of his existence had been purged) was currently insane and unreachable.
