Religion in Splendaria

Throughout the East and the West, one religion has taken root and become dominant. Most humans, elves, and half-elves worship the Creator, a bicameral deity credited with the creation of the world and everything on it, after a fashion. According to the accepted theology the Creator has two separate but co-existant parts, The Mother of the World and the Father of the World. In Splendaria the official church is best thought of as a lawful and highly organized religion following a chaotic god, subdivided into different orders following specific archangels. There are also a handful of adherents to minor tolerated cults.

The Father of the World: Lareth
All orthodox branches of the church refer to the Father of the World as Lareth and credit him with the creation of the firmament, magic, elves and angels. He is a distant ruler of the Court of All Things who typically acts (and grants clerical spells and abilities) through his proxies, the angels. Priests of Lareth may use the Spell Domains of Chaos, Good, Protection, War or Magic.

The Mother of the World: Araushnee vs. Angharradh
Many of the cultural differences between the Kingdoms of the East (including Splendaria) and the Kingdoms of the West stem from the fact that the people of the two subcontinents can't seem to agree on how to worship the Mother of the World.

Angharradh
In Splendaria and the other Kingdoms of the East the Mother is named Angharradh and is more closely associated with the moon, heavens and astrology. Priests of Angharradh may use the Spell Domains of Animal, Plant, Sun, Healing or Good.

Araushnee
In the Kingdoms of the West the Mother is worshipped as Araushnee, the weaver of destiny and the nurturing mother of humanity. Priests of Araushnee may use the Spell Domains of Chaos, Evil, Healing, Animal or Protection.

Priestly Player Characters
Clerics and priests in Splendaria are most often closely affiliated to some aspect of the Creator, typically represented by an Archangel, Angel, Divine Nature or possibly even a Saint. For ease of play these beings can be viewed as specialized priests of different powers. The rules for specialty priests of each power are used, subject to DM approval.

The Archangels are the chief servitors of the Creator. The 12 archangels were charged with the Great Tasks of the Creation and with the disposition of the Creator's will.

Divine Natures
Divine Natures are celestial beings created by Lareth or one of the twelve archangels who embody a necessary (and in some cases harmful) aspect of The Creation. Although not generally credited with the same celestial rank as archangels they are generally seen as more important than the majority of the Infinite Host of angels.
Enoreth, Divine Nature of Time; Chaotic Good; Spell Domains: Destruction, Protection, Healing.

The Infinite Host of Angels
Angels are servitors of the Creator. Some are associated with one or more archangels while others are more directly tied to various aspects of the Creator. Although there are theoretically limitless numbers of angels (hence the name The Infinite Host) only a relative handful are named in religious texts. According to various parables some angels have fallen from grace and no longer directly serving the Creator. These free agents are not without followers, however.
